About

I started My 60 by 60 as a way to document the things I wanted to accomplish before I turned 60 years old in 2011. But 60 things to do turned out to be a bigger goal than I was able to achieve. I also had some rather big bumps in the road during 2011 that derailed some of my momentum.

So I have decided to change things around a bit. Instead of 60 things to accomplish before I turned 60, I want to be able to achieve 60 things or more during my 6th decade. Some of these items will be more costly than others and some will take more planning than others.

I will continue to update as I add items that interest me or take items off that no longer interest me as time goes on. But the whole purpose stays the same, do the things I have been putting off and setting goals to go to the places I want to see.

Below is my original purpose of this blog:

As I approach the start of my last year of this 5th decade (turning 59 on November 17th), I realized that there are still a lot of “things” I haven’t done yet. So to insure that I do and with the help of my family, friends, and others, I’m putting out a list of 60 things I would like to achieve, do, or check off my list before I turn 60.

I would like to say this was my idea but about a year ago, Debb Whitlock did this for her 39th birthday. As she went through her 39th year, she gained momentum that was mindblowing. I don’t know how many of her “things” she achieved but I’m sure she hit most of them.

With that in mind, I’m putting my list out there now. I will be updating the list as I add items/things to get to the 60. But there is a hitch. I’m saving 5 things as there at least 5 things that are very personal to me that I don’t wish to share with the whole world though several of my best friends will know. And I may save another 5 things for everyone else to decide what I should do and the 5 that gets the most votes, I may put on my list.

Also I have a page where I will post what others would like to achieve before their next birthday. So please comment so I can add what you would like to achieve to that list. And when you have accomplished it, we will all celebrate with you whether in person or in spirit.

So come join me in this adventure as I travel to my 60th year and the start of my 6th decade!

The best is yet to come!

  1. Can’t wait to watch this unfold for you! I know how much of a “game-changer” – this was for me the year between 39 and 40 – lots of things were done – some were not – many others were added along the way – and most importantly I learned more about myself and the people in my life than I could have possibly imagined at the beginning of it all.

I’ll be there every step of the way!

Thank you, Debb! I am so looking forward to this. It has already started. And I haven’t even really begun—plus I’m still working on my list. I’m at number 34. Well, actually 37 as 3 of those are part of the 5 very personal ones, I don’t intend to announce to the world. :-)
Again, thank you for all of your support in this!
